Evolution Robotics’ Chief Scientist Receives Prestigious Award from IEEE Robotics and Automation Society
Dr. Paolo Pirjanian honored for his contributions to mobile robotics and vision systems
Evolution Robotics, a leading provider of breakthrough robotics technology components and solutions, has announced that their Chief Scientist, Dr. Paolo Pirjanian, has been awarded this year’s IEEE RAS Industry Early Career Award. Presented by the Robotics and Automation Society at this year’s International Conference on Robotics and Automation, this award recognizes those innovators who have made significant contributions to the field of robotics automation and who have displayed a commitment to robotics development early on in their career.
„Dr. Pirjanians research in robotics is exemplary and we are very pleased to honor him with this award,“ said Ken Goldberg, Professor of Engineering at UC Berkeley and Chair of the IEEE Committee that selected him. „Paolo has demonstrated great leadership in transferring research in automation and vision technologies into practice at Evolution Robotics. Paolo sets a fine example of what a young engineer can accomplish in our field.“
As Chief Scientist at Evolution Robotics, Dr. Pirjanian’s main work is focused on developing component technologies in computer vision, vision-based navigation, system architecture, and human-robot interaction for cost-effective robotics products. His work has been the driving force behind the Evolution Robotics Software Platform (ERSP™) that is driving the development of next-generation robotics applications and devices. Prior to joining Evolution Robotics, Dr. Pirjanian initiated several research thrusts on multi-robot systems for space exploration at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Results of his work have been featured on CNN TV, CNN.com, NASA TV, and other media. He received his Ph.D. degree in robotics from Aalborg University, Denmark where he also served as a research professor.
“I am truly honored to receive this award from the IEEE RAS, and I share it with a team of dedicated and very talented people at Evolution, as well as our investors who are persistently pursuing a rare vision for consumer robotics,” said Dr. Pirjanian. “The development of cutting-edge and exciting robotics technology continues to drive new ideas and push the limits of robotics applications, and I am proud to be a part of it. It is thanks to companies like Evolution Robotics who continue to propel robotics to the next level that spur the creation of innovative robotics products.”
