Minicircle DNA soon available on an industrial scale
This first meeting brought together the scientists who develop this type of vector systems and those who intend to make use of these tools for their gene delivery applications.
“The workshop was a great success. Moreover, due to the major improvements in the Minicircle system, DNA pharmaceuticals will become reality,” said Martin Schleef, CEO of the PlasmidFactory and chairman of the scientific program committee. “This new vector system allows the production of the only non-viral vector DNA completely free of antibiotic resistance markers and bacterial backbone sequences.”
About PlasmidFactory
PlasmidFactory, founded in 2000 in Bielefeld, Germany, is Europe´s leading contract manufacturer for plasmid DNA from research scale (e.g. 10 mg) up to industrial scale for R&D, veterinary or human DNA vaccination, gene therapy, virus production, drug delivery, or tumor therapy. The plasmid DNA is manufactured from Research Grade up to GMP-Grade Quality without using any animal-derived components. Besides the service production of plasmid DNA, the company offers a gene synthesis and optimization service, In Stock plasmids for reporter gene vectors, mock transfections (e.g. GFP, luc, lacZ, pUC21, pUK21), pDG vectors for AAV virus production (diverse serotypes), and pEpi (S/MAR) vectors. Additionally, a vector storage and logistics service is offered. PlasmidFactory has developed the capillary gel electrophoresis (CGE) for quantitative analysis of plasmid DNA topologies. CGE is a useful tool for plasmid quality control, storage and stability assessment. PlasmidFactory´s research activities are focused on anticiotic resistance free vector systems (Minicircle DNA) and DNA vaccine pharmaceuticals – both supported by governmental grants of the BMBF.
