Vertex Systems Deploys Several of UGS’ D-Cubed Software Components in its Architectural CAD Product
UGS Corp., a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, and Vertex Systems of Tampere, Finland, today announced that Vertex has integrated the D-Cubed 2D and 3D Dimensional Constraint Manager and Collision Detection Manager software components – part of UGS’ PLM Components family of solutions – in the current release of its Vertex Building Design product line for the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry.
“More and more AEC software vendors are looking to UGS’ PLM Components as the source of key technologies to support an industry shift to sophisticated, parametrically driven, solid and surface modeling techniques, particularly in view of the trend towards the building information modeling (BIM) approach,” said Bruce Feldt, vice president of Open Tools for UGS. “Our PLM Components, proven in the mechanical field, have much to offer the latest generation of AEC applications. The ability of software developers such as Vertex Systems to reuse our PLM Components to drive revenues in multiple product lines, across different markets, is a strong endorsement of the software component business model.”
Vertex Building Design is a software application for timber and steel framers, modular builders, structural insulated panel builders and prefabricated home manufacturers. It combines 3D design with traditional procedures based on 2D plans. The use of 3D modeling has multiple benefits including the creation of sales materials that have greater impact as well as dimensional accuracy. These components have also been integrated into the Vertex Systems mechanical CAD application, Vertex G4, since 2001.
“By applying several of the D-Cubed components in our new software domain, we have enhanced the design productivity of our Vertex Building Design customers and accomplished this with great efficiency,” said Reijo Havonen, president of Vertex Systems. “As we expose more and more of the features of these components over the coming releases, our customers will be able to design their buildings faster and better than ever before.”
About PLM Components and D-Cubed
UGS’ PLM Components are open software tools designed to promote industry standardization and interoperability within the product lifecycle management (PLM) market. Many of the world’s leading CAD/CAM/CAE/PLM vendors have adopted the widely respected solutions from PLM Components for integration into their applications. DCubedTM software is part of the PLM Components suite of solutions and represents a family of geometric software components that enable key functionality in CAD, CAM, CAE, and PLM applications, including sketching, part and assembly modeling, motion simulation, collision detection, clearance measurement and hidden-line visualization. D-Cubed also provides consultancy based software integration services in support of the PLM Open vision. For more information, please visit www.ugs.com/products/open/.
